Once a week, do a quick walk-around before your first ride. It becomes second nature after a few weeks. Here's what to check:

• • Tire pressure. Squeeze both tires. They should feel firm, not squishy. Under-inflated tires drain your battery faster and wear out quicker.
• • Brake response. Squeeze each brake lever. They should engage firmly without feeling spongy or loose.
• • Folding mechanism. Fold and unfold the bike once. The latch should click securely and feel tight.
• • Lights and display. Turn the bike on and verify the display works and both lights function.

Cleaning an e-bike is different from cleaning a regular bike. You can't just spray it with a hose -- the motor, battery contacts, and wiring don't like water. Here's the safe method:

Every 1-2 months, apply a thin layer of grease to the hinge points and locking mechanisms. Wipe away any excess. This keeps the fold smooth and prevents the latch from developing play or looseness.

Warning sign: If the fold feels stiff, gritty, or the latch doesn't lock securely, clean and re-grease immediately. A worn folding mechanism is a safety hazard and much harder to fix than preventive maintenance.
